I hope it is not too late for this information. In Burton's "ZANZIBA" on page 82 (vol 1) is the following: 'The streets are, as they should be under such a sky, deep and winding alleys, hardly 20 feet broad, and travellers compare them to a tangled skein.' I hope this answers your question. |
