In 1990 Professor James A. Casada authored a fine Burton book, "Sir Richard F. Burton: A Biobibliographical Study". The book was published by G.K. Hall & Co. of Boston, MA. I mention this to readers because I seldom see it mentioned in discussions of the Burton literature. I judge it to be a fine work of research and scholarship. Have others read this title?

More recently the novelist John Dunning authored a novel, "The Bookman's Promise" in which Richard F. Burton is featured prominently. I enjoyed the story and will reveal no details for those who wish to explore it.

What you say is true. Dr. Casada's book is a fine work. But, as he himself states in his acknowledgements, his book "...can aspire to being an extension and expansion of his [Penzer's] magnum opus...Penzer's Bibliogrtaphy long has been, and will remain, the proper beginning point for studies of Burton."

While I use Dr. Casada's book often, I as often return to Penzer. Most of the time I am looking for Penzer's much more detailed bibliographical descriptions. Casada provides more current information. Both are, unfortunatelly, incomplete and I eagerly await a future, more extensive bibliography of Burton's works.
