I'm doing a MA research about a book that fictionalizes the existence
of the Quilombo del Gran Chaco. Actually, this would be a society created
by militars of the Paraguayan War that wouldn't like to keep fighting.
In this book "Letters from the battle-fields of Paraguay", Burton talks in
one of his letters about the existence of that society, placed in paraguayan
territory (Chaco). Even so, it's one paragraph in the whole book. I'm trying
to get a bigger information about this Quilombo del Gran Chaco, but it's very
hard to find.
Would someone have any information about that society? The book I'm studying
is Los conjurados del Quilombo del Gran Chaco, by Augusto Roa Bastos, Alejandro
Maciel, Eric Nepomuceno and Omar Prego Gadea. They take this Burton's reference
of the Quilombo and create five narratives about it.
I'd be very glad to know more about it...
Thanks
Flavio |
